• Prostate cancer care

  Together on one campus, our team of urologists and radiologists provide complete and evidence-based care for patients with prostate cancer. At St Andrew’s, we offer prostate cancer patients a range of treatment options for both local and advanced prostate cancer, including:

  • Robotically assisted radical prostatectomy.
  • High-dose brachytherapy.
  • Low-dose brachytherapy.

  In consultation with your urologist, you have access to the treatment option that is most appropriate for you.

  We also have an outpatient clinic for prostate cancer patients, which is run by pelvic floor physiotherapists and prostate cancer specialist nurses, providing a holistic service and continuity of care.

• Types of surgery

  At St Andrew’s, our comprehensive medical and surgical support means we can undertake a wide range of urology procedures, including:

  • Cystoscopy: Our urologists perform cystoscopy procedures to diagnose and treat conditions of the bladder and urethra.
  • Bladder cancer surgery: This includes diagnosis (cystoscopy), resection, treatment and robotic cystectomy (bladder removal).
  • Urinary diversion: Illeal conduit or neo bladder.
  • Kidney stone management: This includes laser removal, lithotripsy (ESWL).
  • Robotic, laparoscopic and open kidney surgery: This includes nephrectomy, partial nephrectomy and pyeloplasty.
  • Robotically assisted prostate cancer surgery: A form of laparoscopic surgery performed through small cuts in the abdomen. This procedure uses a camera and instruments that are robotically manipulated by the surgeon at a workstation in the theatre.
  • Robotic or open radical prostatectomy.
  • Treatment for benign prostatic enlargement or hypertrophy (BPH): This includes transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP); rezum procedure; laser prostatectomy; Millin’s enucleation (simple prostatectomy); Holium Laser Enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP); and urolift.
  • Botox: Botox injections as a treatment option for overactive bladder.
  • Scrotal and testicular surgery.
  • Male sterilisation: Vasectomy and vasectomy reversal.
  • Transperineal and trans-rectal prostate biopsies.
  • Penile prosthesis.

  Many of our urological surgeries can be done as minimally invasive procedures.

• Our facilities

  Our facilities are equipped with the latest medical technology, including robotic surgical systems, to ensure the best possible treatment with minimal recovery times. This includes: 

  • Da Vinci Surgical System: Our da Vinci robot allows surgeons to perform laparoscopic surgery through small abdominal incisions using a camera and other instruments, rather than making larger incisions as in open procedures.
  • iSR’obot Mona Lisa: This technology complements the da Vinci robot, setting a new standard in prostate biopsy. It is designed to provide surgeons with complete prostate coverage, while accurately guiding the biopsy needle through only two skin punctures in the perineal region. This reduces infection rates.
