Dr Osama Al-Bermani is a Brisbane-based, Australian-trained consultant urological surgeon accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) and a member of the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand (USANZ). He is a highly skilled and experienced urologist specializing in a broad range of benign and malignant urological conditions.
Dr Al-Bermani completed a Bachelor of Pharmacy with First Class Honours and a postgraduate Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Queensland. His extensive training included roles across New Zealand and Queensland, ultimately leading to a robotic and laparoscopic fellowship at Princess Alexandra Hospital and the Queensland Robotic Surgery Unit at Greenslopes Hospital in 2018. He was admitted to the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2019.
Dr Al-Bermani further specialised in upper-tract surgery at the Bristol Urological Institute in the UK, an ERUS-accredited centre of excellence. He then completed an additional fellowship in robotic pelvic uro-oncology at University College Hospital London, recognized as one of the top urology hospitals and a centre of excellence in the UK and Europe. Dr Al-Bermani honed his advanced robotic surgical skills and later mentored the next generation of fellows. In recognition of his expertise in uro-oncology and robotic surgery, he is a member of the International Postgraduate Deanery with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
Dr Al-Bermani’s special interests include robotic and minimally invasive surgical techniques to treat benign and malignant conditions such as:
- Prostate cancer (including Retzius-sparing radical prostatectomy with nerve-sparing)
- Kidney cancer (including robotic partial nephrectomy)
- Bladder cancer
- Testicular cancer
- Complex kidney stone management & prevention (LASER treatment)
- Voiding dysfunction & benign prostate enlargement (UroLift)
Dr Al-Bermani works publicly at Redcliffe Hospital and STARS (Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Service) and is heavily involved in training medical students, junior doctors, and specialist training urologists. He currently holds a position as an associate lecturer at the University of Queensland.
