• How do my employees claim through WorkCover?

  When employees present with job-related injuries, our hospital staff will immediately take care of the paperwork and directly bill WorkCover.

• What is a workplace injury?

  A work-related injury is one that happens while you're at work, travelling to or from your job, or while you are on a break. It could be one of many things including a cut, broken bone, burn or hearing loss.

• What should I do if I am injured at work?

  If you have a workplace injury, like a broken bone, burn or back injury, and your employer has a WorkCover insurance policy, come to St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital's Emergency Centre. We will send the work capacity certificate to WorkCover and bill them for your treatment costs.

  For serious injuries always phone 000 and ask for an ambulance. Let the paramedics know that you want to go to St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital as part of a WorkCover claim.

• What kind of workplace injuries do you treat?

  The St Andrew’s Emergency Centre team is experienced in treating every type of workplace injury – both minor and major – including broken bones, cuts and lacerations, back and leg injuries, concussion, chemical eye burns, invasion of foreign objects, industrial deafness and much more.

• Are there any additional extras we need to worry about?

  WorkCover can cover everything: radiology, pathology, physio, all in-hospital care. It will also cover post-hospital care, such as physio or if crutches are required.

• What happens if I need surgery?

  The hospital has upper limb surgeons on a 24/7 roster, so workers presenting with hand lacerations or breaks have access to theatre at any time of the day. All of our medical specialties are on site, meaning patients don’t have to be transferred to another hospital.

• What if my injury claim is rejected?

  As long as you are injured while performing your duties and your employer has a WorkCover insurance policy, you will be covered. If your injury did not happen while you were working, you will be responsible for the Emergency Centre costs.

• Can an ambulance take me to St Andrew’s?

  For serious injuries dial 000 and ask for an ambulance. St Andrew’s Emergency Centre has a dedicated ambulance bay and regularly receives patients from Queensland Ambulance Service. Just tell the attending paramedics that you want to go to St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital as part of a WorkCover claim.

• What about parking or transport?

  If you prefer public transport we are on the Spring Hill loop. If someone else can drive you we have onsite paid parking available. For information check out our visit the hospital page.
