Dr Susan O'Mahony MBBS (Qld), MPhil (Med Sci) (Cantab), MD (Cantab), FRACS (Plast)
Dr Susan O’Mahony is an Adult and Paediatric Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. She has a broad practice encompassing most areas of adult plastic surgery, with a particular emphasis on aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery, skin cancer surgery and facial plastic surgery. Her paediatric practice focuses on cleft lip and palate and craniofacial disorders, along with congenital breast deformities and general paediatric plastic surgery.
Dr O’Mahony completed her medical training at the University of Queensland in 1998. Following her residency she travelled to the UK where she undertook preliminary training in general surgery and plastic surgery, and was subsequently appointed to a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Fellowship. She was awarded a Masters Degree from the University of Cambridge in 2003, followed by a Doctorate of Medicine in surgical research from the same University, her thesis being awarded the prize for best clinical MD of the academic year.
Dr O’Mahony returned to Brisbane in 2003 and completed the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery training program in 2009. She then undertook a two year Fellowship Program in Cleft and Craniomaxillofacial Surgery in Brisbane and New Zealand.
Dr O’Mahony is a VMO at St Andrews Hospital and consults close by on Wickham Terrace. Her office is equipped with a local anaesthetic theatre for more simple procedures or those not covered by insurance. Dr O’Mahony also holds a public hospital appointment as a VMO at the new Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital.
