Dr Lawrence Lee MBBS, FRANZCO, FRACS
Associate Professor Lawrence Lee is a consultant ophthalmologist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Queensland Children’s Hospital and City Eye Centre in Brisbane, with over 20 years of experience in the field of ophthalmology with expertise in all aspects of medical and surgical retinal disease including retinal emergencies and trauma, as well as research and teaching. Associate Professor Lee is also Director of City Eye Centre, Director of Ophthalmology at St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital, Brisbane, and RANZCO Continuing Professional Development Committee Chairman. He is a Medicolegal expert in his field and has provided advice on many cases.
Following ophthalmology training in Brisbane, he completed a Retinal Fellowship at Sydney Eye Hospital. He was then awarded the Royal Australian College of Ophthalmologists/Alcon Fellowship to pursue further medical retinal training with the eminent Professor J. Donald M. Gass at Vanderbilt University Nashville, Tennessee, USA. He further completed advanced vitreoretinal surgical training at Moorfield’s Eye Hospital in London. Associate Professor Lee has been an invited speaker at local and international ophthalmology conferences and has published over 90 journal, conference papers and book chapters. Associate Professor Lee strives to remain at the forefront of vitreoretinal surgery, promote vitreoretinal education and research, and maintain an alliance with international vitreoretinal developments.
Associate Professor Lawrence Lee has been associated with the St Andrew’s Ophthalmology Service since 1998, providing cataract and vitreoretinal saving sight care, managing many emergencies including retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, macular holes and epiretinal membranes, and trauma surgery and has accepted referrals from all over Queensland, and overseas. He has clinics on Wickham Terrace and at Sunnybank, on the southside of Brisbane.
