Dr McNicholl is a fellowship trained Orthopaedic Surgeon that has a subspecialist interest in hip and knee surgery, and lower limb trauma. He regularly performs anterior hip replacement, hip resurfacing and robotic knee replacement.

He has a subspecialty interest in complex and revision joint replacement having undertaken advanced training in London, UK at St Georges Hospital and the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Center.

He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS), Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association (FAorthA).

He has previously served as the acting clinical director of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Cairns Hospital, and while training served as the Queensland representative to the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Trainee Association.
