Professor John Fraser qualified from the University of Glasgow in 1991 prior to planes, trains and automobiles across Eastern Europe, Russia, Gobi Desert and China – all in a second time kilt.
He obtained Fellowships in Anaesthesia, Medicine, Intensive Care and a PhD in Fetal Surgery.
He founded the Critical Care Research Group in 2004, from humble beginnings and now has eight purpose built labs and 83 staff.
He has Professorships in Medicine, Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Engineering across five universities. He has published over 400 papers on a diverse range of subjects in journals including New England Journal Medicine, The Lancet, Circulation and AJRCCM. He is
the Chief Investigator of the First International Centre for Research Excellence in Mechanical Support (NHMRC).
He has recently assumed the Presidency of the Asia Pacific Extracorporeal Life Support Organisation and Co-chair of the Queensland Cardiovascular Research Network. He has five children, all of whom are better than him at sport.
