Dr Francis Tomlinson MBBS, MD, PhD, FRACS
BrizBrain & Spine’s senior surgeon and a founding member, Dr Francis Tomlinson is a neurosurgeon with sub specialties in neurosurgery, neuro-oncology, spinal surgery and epilepsy.
Born and raised in Queensland, Dr Tomlinson completed his undergraduate medical training in Brisbane, at the University of Queensland. He received his advanced neurosurgery training at the Royal Brisbane Hospital while also studying for his doctorate PhD.
On completing his advanced neurosurgical training, Dr Tomlinson worked for three years at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in the United States of America, before returning to Australia to accept a position as a visiting neurosurgical consultant at the Royal Brisbane and Royal Children’s Hospitals. He worked as a Clinical Associate Professor, supervising neurosurgical training at the Royal Brisbane Hospital.
During this time Dr Tomlinson also managed his busy private neurosurgical practice in Brisbane. Dr Tomlinson is now in full-time private practice after leaving the Royal Brisbane Hospital in 2004. He has extensive experience in neurosurgery and has particular interests in neuro-oncology, vascular neurosurgery, spinal surgery, epilepsy, skull base surgery and medico-legal medicine.
He continues to advance his skills in all areas of neurosurgery and spinal surgery.
Dr Tomlinson is a member of QASM (Queensland Audit of Surgical Mortality), the NSA (Neurosurgical Society of Australasia), the Australian Pain Society, the Australian Pituitary Foundation, the Queensland Acoustic Neuroma Association and the Spine Society.
Dr Tomlinson is also an Associate Professor with the Faculty of Medicine for Griffith University and Bond University.
