For over 60 years, we’ve been a leader in complex health needs, bringing together the finest medical experts and technology to deliver holistic care and support for our patients and their families.

At St Andrew's we’re proud of reputation for graduate support, retention and success, with many Graduates going on to experience exceptional careers with our family, and beyond.

Specialised, in-depth learning.

A 12 Month program, we offer the opportunity to consolidate your skills in a single clinical specialty – deepening your learning experience, and setting you up for success.

Two streams to consolidate your skills:

General Nursing:

  • Acute Medicine, Respiratory, Palliative Care
  • Cardiology / Coronary Care
  • Cardiothoracic/Vascular
  • Orthopaedics/Neuroscience/Neurosurgery
  • Rehabilitation
  • Surgical – Adult and Paediatrics, Plastics, ENT, Colorectal Eye, Gynaecology, General Surgical

Whilst not offered as a specific stream, nearly 20% of our surgical patients are Paediatric.

Perioperative Stream

There are three Perioperative Programs available at St Andrew's War Memorial Hospital:

  • Scrub/Scout Program
  • PACU (Post Anaesthetics Care Unit)
  • Anaesthetics Program

Both programs include a comprehensive theoretical component as well as a supportive clinical component

Together, you’ll go places.

St Andrew's War Memorial Hospital prides itself on providing career opportunities in a range of clinical specialities. We’re in it for the long haul, which is why we’re committed to your on-going career development post-program and why our program consistently achieves over a 90% retention rate.

Following your program, you’ll be highly encouraged to continue your career with St Andrew's, or be supported in applying for other opportunities within UnitingCare. You can explore the areas you completed placement in, or look to try something completely different.

We recognise the importance of continually learning and developing as individuals – it’s even one of our values. We partner with the University of Tasmania to provide our people with the opportunity to further themselves through a range of postgraduate courses.

We also offer scholarships and bursaries to continue your professional development long after your program finishes.

Genuinely supporting you to succeed.

Graduate study days, education sessions, formal courses, workshops and supernumerary hours are just some of the ways we support you in your Graduate year.

Most importantly, we offer educators, leaders and team mates that genuinely care from the heart about your success. Some have been supporting and educating others for over 20 years – so they have a good understanding of what you’ll experience your first year in the real world
