Brisbane hospital to honour the fallen

ANZAC service

St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital will welcome hundreds of Brisbane residents tomorrow to pay their respects to Australian servicemen and women as it holds its 2018 ANZAC Day Ceremony.

As Brisbane’s only war memorial hospital and in its 60th year of serving the local community, St Andrew’s will commemorate the sacrifice of those who have served and fought as part of the Australian Defence Forces.

St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital General Manager Wally Bourdelov said the hospital was proud of its connection with Australian servicemen and women and ANZAC Day was a significant event on their calendar.

"Since St Andrew’s opened its doors 60 years ago, staff and patients have paused each year to remember the self-sacrifice so that we may live in freedom."

"It’s through the compassion and dedication of our whole team who care for patients and their families in their time of need that the hospital continues to honour our historic war origins."

Held at the hospital’s main entrance, the ceremony will include contributions from the Emmanuel College Pipe Band and Somerville House Choir, and will feature a WWI cart, the Army Catafalque party and soldier on horse.

People attending this year’s event at St Andrew’s are encouraged to arrive from 2:10pm with the official ceremony to commence at 2:30pm.
