Hundreds of Brisbane residents are expected to attend St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital’s 2016 ANZAC Day Service.
Brisbane’s only living war memorial hospital will pay tribute to past and present servicemen and servicewomen on Monday, 25 April during an afternoon ceremony.
The service will launch with a performance by The University of Queensland Emmanuel College Pipe Band and will feature a keynote speech from St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital General Manager Andrew Barron.
Guests will hear a commemorative address from UnitingCare Health Chief Medical Officer and Major of the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps, Dr Luis Prado.
The hospital’s General Manager Andrew Barron said after World War II, hard-working men and women from the local community strove to bring about Brisbane’s first hospital that would stand as a living memorial to those who fought in the two world wars.
“People in the 1940s and ’50s showed great determination for building a hospital in Brisbane that would best commemorate the fallen,” Mr Barron said.
“After years of hard work, St Andrew’s opened it doors in 1958 in order for the nation’s servicemen and servicewomen to be remembered in a living war memorial. It’s through compassionate and dedicated acts helping patients and their family at their time of need that the hospital continues to honour its roots and symbolism.
“Today, St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital continues to honour all who have fought and served our country – and we do this through people-centred care for all our patients and their family.”
