Dr Wayne Stafford is a Director of Queensland Cardiovascular Group (QCG). He has special interests in cardiac arrythmias, cardiac electrophysiology studies and catheter ablation therapy, cardiac pacing including cardiac resyncronisation therapy, and implantable defribrillators.
Dr Stafford is a Graduate in Medicine with First Class Honours and a University Medal of the University of Queensland. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, a Fellow of the Cardiac Society of Australian and New Zealand and a Fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society. After completing his training in cardiology in Australia, Dr Stafford undertook two years of a clinical/research fellowship in the United States, at the University of Miami School of Medicine in Florida, and then at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston.
Dr Stafford is currently Visiting Cardiologist at St Andrew's Hospital, and his clinical practice is based at this site. He has ongoing interests in research and teaching. He is Adjunct Professor at the School of Physical and Chemical Sciences at the Queensland University of Technology.
He undertakes regular undergraduate medical student and medical engineering student teaching, and current research projects include cardiac resynchronisation therapy and non-invasive measurement of cardiac output. Dr Stafford has been chairman of the Working Group in Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing within the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.
