For over three years, original and inspiring artworks have transformed the hallways on Level One of St Andrews War Memorial Hospital, turning them into a showcase for the creative talents of local artists living with adversity. In 2015 over 200 artworks by over 80 different local artists were featured in a series of exhibitions.
Art from the Margins (AFTM) is a creative initiative of Wesley Mission Brisbane that brings artists together and promotes the work of artists living with adversity, disadvantage and social isolation, including artists living with mental health issues, physical or intellectual disabilities and homelessness. AFTM currently provides exhibition and professional development opportunities for hundreds of artists living in and around the Brisbane area.
A vital element of the Art from the Margins – St Andrew’s community arts partnership is our commitment to supporting the creative expression and artistic development of artists living with adversity.
AFTM thanks St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital and honorary Curator Dr Philip Hall for their vision and ongoing commitment to supporting the AFTM program and local artists.
